Parents and caregivers please act as “quality control”.  Only sign off activities that you believe have been completed to a good standard. (Don’t forget that evidence is the key to getting platinum at the end of the year i.e. photos, tick charts, a written response from someone who was there etc)

THINKING
  • Introduce yourself to your class using 2 different languages. This could include your personal mihi with your own mountain and river.
  • Design and make a simple flotation device using recycled materials.  Have this ready to bring to the swimming pool to test on  4 November.

PARTICIPATING AND CONTRIBUTING
  • Make an A4 First Aid poster for safety at home (e.g. the kitchen, garage, in the garden) Include the correct emergency number to call.
  • Teach someone in your class an ICT skill and support them to become independent. Post on Seesaw a video of person using the skill.

MANAGING SELF
  • Make a small Christmas gift for someone in your family spending no more than $5.00. Include a picture of your gift.
              • Plan a simple meal for the family using supermarket brochures and a budget of $15.00. Include the plan in your book.

USING LANGUAGE, SYMBOLS AND TEXT
  • Find out why we have Westland Anniversary Day (Monday November 28, 2016) Add your findings to seesaw or write it in your book. http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/public-holidays/page-3
  • Get outdoors and grow a plant or a vegetables in your backyard  Keep a visual diary of progress from garden to table. This could be a New World little plant.

RELATING TO OTHERS
  • Compare how you celebrate Xmas to the way your grandparents celebrated Xmas or share a cultural festival from your family.
  • Create a map of local community services that you can share with your class; swimming pool, sports fields, parks, library, movie theatre etc. Include fun places you like to go as a family (e.g. beach, cycle trail or ice-cream shop).
